2024 Into The Woods Drama Registration

This form is to register your student to participate in the Trinity Christian Academy Drama Production: Into The Woods. Every student that auditions is guaranteed a part in the musical.  We do not, however, guarantee they will get the part they want.  We give everyone an equal opportunity to audition for the part they desire.  We then spend a significant amount of time discussing and deciding on parts.  Many considerations are taken into account including, but not limited to, experience, behavior, talent, and coachability.  It is our expectation that your student will continue with the show through the performance dates no matter what part they are assigned.  If a student is unhappy with their part, they are encouraged to talk to us about our decision.  A valuable lesson is often learned when we don’t get something we want or think we deserve, and quitting doesn’t help anyone.

Performing in a musical is an experience that young people will remember for the rest of their lives, and it is truly our pleasure to work with your child on this exciting project.  We want everyone involved to understand both the benefits and responsibilities that go along with being in a musical, so we have detailed some of the basics here.

First off, there are a number of great benefits to being in a musical, including:

     Active Participation in the Arts

     Improving Literacy Skills

     Becoming a Confident Public Speaker

Gaining Critical Thinking & Problem Solving Skills

As with any group activity, every participant has responsibilities. Please look over the following items to make sure you and your child feel you can honor the commitment to being a part of a show.

Attendance: A schedule will be distributed after the cast is announced. If there are conflicts, please let the production team know as soon as possible at the contact below. Students are expected to attend all rehearsals they are called for unless prior approval has been given. More than 3 unexcused absences will result in the role being given to an Understudy.  Our first FULL CAST rehearsal will be after Thanksgiving. Date to be determined.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals will typically last from 3:30-5:00pm days to be determined once cast is announced. Students should bring their scripts, a pencil, and a snack. Also, please make sure you have arranged for your child to be picked up on time from each rehearsal. If a student is not scheduled for a rehearsal, they are welcome to come anyway to work on lines, songs, choreography, etc. They must commit to rehearsing and not being disruptive to whatever is going on in rehearsal. Students not picked up at 5:00pm will be brought to extended day at the parents’ expense.

Homework: Students will have some homework for the show, including memorizing lines and songs, rehearsing their dances, researching their character, etc. Work with your child to create a schedule so they have time to finish both their school homework and their homework from the musical. Music is available on Google Classroom. By February 1, 2024, students should be off book. That means no scripts will be allowed on stage during rehearsals after that point.

Attitude: The rehearsal room and theater are safe spaces where young people can take positive risks and be themselves without the fear of being laughed at or alienated. This principle is essential to artistic growth and exploration. Participants are expected to respect these principles and are encouraged to remember it themselves when trying new things.

Academics: Your student’s academics are important to us! If there are concerns about grades, please make us aware before it becomes an issue that would prevent the student from attending rehearsals. We believe the breakdown of the rehearsal schedule this year should not interfere with homework or study time.

Volunteering: The most important thing you can do to help us with the musical is make sure your child commits to everything listed above. If you want to volunteer additional time or resources to the production, simply drop us a note with your name, and we will contact you when assistance is needed. We are still in the process of compiling a list of everything that needs to be done, but don’t worry, when we have tasks that need to be done, we will let you know. Closer to show time we will send out a sign-up sheet and only those parents that are signed up will be allowed to help on show night. We appreciate everyone’s willingness, but that day is stressful enough that we need to keep the chaos to a minimum.

Finally, please remember that a musical is a living, breathing entity. Things don’t always go exactly as planned, so changes to the plan will most likely be made throughout the rehearsal process. We promise to give you as much advance notice as possible on all changes that arise.
